Description:
Railway from Markinch to Leslie.
Opened: 1857.

The Leslie Railway, linking Markinch on the Edinburgh & Northern Railway with the small town of Leslie, a few miles further up the valley of the River Leven, opened during 1857. The passenger service was withdrawn on 4th January, 1932, but the line continued in use for goods traffic to paper mills at Leslie. The railway passed through the new town of Glenrothes on its way to Leslie, yet no consideration appears to have been given to providing a station on the line to serve this large and important town or for its developing industries to be served by rail, and the line closed on 9th October, 1967, as Glenrothes grew around it.
